Sweetheart Candy Heart Box – Paper Pumpkin Alternative Project

The idea of a candy heart box for a Valentine’s Day project has been swimming around in my brain for a while. When I got this month’s My Paper Pumpkin kit in the mail, I knew exactly what I would attempt to make with it!

Candy Heart Box from My Paper Pumpkin Kit

There are a ton of paper hearts in this kit, and they are the perfect size for a candy box. After some experimenting, I found a way to make, what I think, is a super cute version of the traditional candy heart box. Below is a video tutorial for how to make this box.

Click here if you can’t see the video above.

A 3 month subscription to My Paper Pumpkin is available at a discounted price of $55 through the end of Sale-a-bration. This means that you can pre-pay for a 3 month subscription and ALSO get a free Sale-a-bration item! Click here to learn more or to purchase a 3 month My Paper Pumpkin subscription.

If you subscribe now, your first kit will ship next month. That means you won’t get this valentine’s kit. However, when you subscribe, you will have the opportunity to purchase past kits, so it’s very possible you can still order the January 2016 kit if they are still available. At the time of this blog post, the January kits are still available as “past kits” to purchase.

Just for You Card

I made this “Just for You” card using the “Botanicals for You” stamp set from the Sale-a-bration catalog. It’s one of the sets that you can get free with a $50 order! This card my entry for this week’s Mojo Monday card sketch challenge.

Just for You Card

I used the new Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to add some sparkle to the “Just for You” stamped words. I absolutely love this new glitter tool and will probably start adding glitter to everything now! I really love that this method of adding sparkle is mess-free!

Just For You Card Sparkle View

Since this card is a square shape, it will probably cost extra to mail it. I hate having to pay extra postage, but I really do love square-shaped cards!

Here are instructions on how I made it:

– Cut a piece of Mossy Meadow card stock to 5″ x 10″. Score at 10″ and fold in half to form card base.
– Cut a piece of Birthday Bouquet DSP measuring 4-3/4 x 4-3/4 and attach to front of card base.
– Cut another piece of Mossy Meadow card stock to 4-1/4 x 3
– Cut a piece of Whisper White card stock to 4 x 2 3/4
– Stamp Just for You image on Whisper White piece using Watermelon Wonder Ink.
– Layer stamped image with Mossy Meadow piece.
– Cut one strip each of Watermelon Wonder card stock (I was out of Watermelon Wonder CS, so I actually used Calypso Coral card stock) at:
3/4 x 3
1 x 3
1-1/2 x 3
– Trim the ends of the Watermelon Wonder pieces to form a banner shape on the ends and adhere to card base toward the bottom.
– Attach the stamped image that is layered with the Mossy Meadow piece to the front of the card, toward the left side.
– Use a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to trace over the words of the stamped image.
– Stamp 1 large flower and 2 small flowers on Whisper White card stock with Mossy Meadow Ink. Cut out flowers.
– Attach flowers to upper left corner of card and place a rhinestone in the center of each.

Here are a couple of other variations of this card using different paper and colors

Holly Jolly Christmas Card

I think this is my favorite Christmas card I’ve made this season! I used the Jolly Christmas stamp set, versamark ink for the patterned background, and some creative layering. Thanks for looking!

Season’s Greetings Card and Year-End Sale

seasonsgreetingscard

Here is another card I made using the Berry Merry stamp set. My husband said it looks masculine except for the glitter (lol), so this one might be a good one to give to the men in your life. The Berry Merry stamp set is now part of the year-end clearance sale that starts today (see below for more about this sale).

Here are the supplies I used to make this card:

Joy Christmas Card, Precision Base Plate and Weekly Deals

I know I am probably months behind everyone else, but I am still working on my Christmas cards! I am even having a local class this weekend. This is one of the cards we are going to make at my class and one I will be sending out.

joycard-watermark

It was one of those cards that I kind of designed by accident. I had been trying to make other card designs and kept messing up and just throwing my “mess ups” into a pile on my desk. I looked over and I had a messed up “Joy” stamped image laying on top of some blue paper and a wasted strip of glimmer paper. I though…”huh…that pile of trash looks good!” lol! So from there, I ended up coming up with this card and absolutely love it! If you are like me, you get stressed by a messy table. I am trying to get past that, because sometimes a messy desk can lead to maximum creativity!

Precision Base Plate Weekly Deal
Next, I was really excited to see the weekly deals this week. I have really been wanting to get the Precision Base Plate, but have been procrastinating because I know I can get basically the same thing much cheaper online, but if I bought it online, I wouldn’t be supporting my own business. Well, this week, the precision base plate is on sale for about the same price you can get it anywhere, woohoo!

If you haven’t heard about the precision base plate, you are missing out. Those great framelits with all the intricate details are so pretty, but are a major pain when you try to remove all the little hanging chads (as I call them!) and bits of paper that get stuck in between all the details. The precision base plate is rumored to solve that problem. Here is a video from Stampin’ Up! that shows how this plate works.

Here are all of the weekly deals for this week:

2015 Freaky Fridays – Halloween Pencil Holder

2015-10-22-21.52.29

Here is the final project for my 2015 Halloween video series! It is an idea for a non-candy treat for Halloween. But if you need candy, you can fill it with pixie sticks instead.

(Click here if you can’t see the video above)

Supplies

Measurements
Start with a 12 x 1-1/2 piece of DSP. With the 12″ side at the top of your scoring tool, make a small mark at 4-3/8. Score at 8 and 8-1/8. Turn the paper so that the small side is at the top of your scoring tool and score at 3/8 and 1-1/8. Assemble box, then adhere to a 8-1/4×1 piece of black card stock for stability and extra decoration.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Halloween series. Check back soon for my Christmas video series!

8 Best Adhesives and When to Use Them

8 best stampin up adhesives and when to use them

Snail
snailSnail stands for “Simple, Neat, Affordable, In-Line”. It is my go-to adhesive for almost every project. It isn’t super strong, so I don’t use it for assembling 3D projects, but it is perfect for layering paper for cards and embellishments. The 2 things to remember when using it is to remember to flip open the cover, and that the little ridgy part is the top. Think of it as a grip for your finger so it doesn’t slip away when using it.

Tear and Tape
tearandtapeI love this stuff! It is a replacement for Sticky Strip if you’ve ever used that. It is as strong as sticky strip, which means it is the ideal adhesive for assembling boxes and 3D projects that need to hold up to any weight. The advantage of Tear and Tape versus Sticky Strip is that Tear and Tape can be torn rather than cut and the backing is easier to remove. All around, it is much more user friendly than Sticky Strip. If you’ve ever used Score Tape, Tear and Tape is pretty much the exact same thing and is about the same price.

Fast Fuse
fastfuseThis adhesive is fairly new to Stampin’ Up! It is sort of a cross between Snail and Tear and Tape. It’s in a dispenser much like that of Snail, but it is much stronger and is nearly as strong as Tear and Tape. Use this when you are working with something that just doesn’t seem to want to stay put with snail, but you also want the convenience of a snail-like dispenser. I think this stuff is a little pricey, so I use it somewhat sparingly.

Dimensionals
dimensionalsThese are the little foam hexagons that add all of the dimension to your embellishments. They are also great for sticking things to pesky glimmer paper. They are pretty strong little guys and they are super affordable, so I use them like crazy and love them so much. The trick is to NOT pull off the backing before you attach them to your project. Pull a few off of the sheet, stick them to your project, THEN remove the backing on each of the dimensional you’ve added to your project. Also, the edges of the dimensional sheet are perfect for small things. Just snip a piece off of the edge and you have a mini dimensional!

Glue Dots
gluedotsOh how I love glue dots! You can use these for practically anything, but they are perfect for adhering ribbon and tiny embellishment pieces. The trick is to not try to peel them off of the backing strip first. Put your ribbon or paper up to the strip, press and pull away. The glue dot will be stuck to your ribbon or paper so you don’t have to deal with sticky stuff on your fingers.

Tombow
tombowTombow is best for when you need to adhere something and have a little wiggle room. Lots of people love using it to put boxes together and even to attach paper to their cards. It’s very strong and has a somewhat slow drying time, meaning you have time to adjust the placement of whatever you are attaching. This glue is messy and can gloop out of the bottle really quickly, so I don’t like using it. I’m one of those crafters that can’t handle having sticky fingers!

2-way Glue Pen
2wayglueThis glue is called 2-way because if you adhere your paper together immediately after applying it, the bond is permanent. If you let the glue dry before adhering your paper together, it is a temporary glue. Some people apply this to the back of their clear mount stamps to get a better adhesion to their clear blocks. This also has a small tip, so it is easy to use on smaller pieces of paper.

Fine-tip Glue Pen
finetopglueThis is a new adhesive that is awesome! It is a liquid glue that comes in a bottle with a super teeny tiny tip – about the size of a needle – so that it can be used on the smallest of embellishments. It is perfect for adhering sequins or even die cuts that have very intricate details.
